Why is it called self-esteem, when others try to put their two cents in it? Hey I thought it was about self, not Jason, Jon-Jon, or Pookie. But yet in still, those type of people with those certain tendencies tends to pop up on your radar; ready to attack. Talk about Self-Esteem!!!

Hi, I'm a senior in high school, and academically, I have a lot going for myself. However, I at times (RIGHT NOW), I feel ugly. Do you think my low self-esteem has anything to do with my absent mother?

To Anonymous,
I would like to thank you for allowing Mentoring Girls Into Pearls an opportunity to share with you my guidance on improving your thought on, “Feeling Ugly.” Your question is a very important question because there is another young woman feeling the same emotions you are experiencing. Please understand you are not alone. Let’s begin with some simple steps. First, refrain from using terminology like “ugly.” I want you to get an old picture of you and your mother and paste to a piece of construction paper. Next, at the bottom of the paper I want you to write a beautiful message, note, poem, scripture, essay, song or words describing and reflecting back on the relationship. Most importantly, I want you to incorporate the word beautiful within the message more than 7 times. Therefore you must have the minimum seven sentences. I want you to place this beautiful piece of art on your nightstand to look at in the morning after waking up and night before going to sleep. Try to be creative by pasting some beautiful colors, silk flowers, sparkling buttons, or symbols. You may even have some of your mother’s old pieces of cloth you can add. It is very important that you remember beautiful things about your mother. Make this a fun assignment:-) Try focusing on beautiful things because this will make you feel beautiful and better. I know it takes time but I believe in you! Finally, try to reflect back on some wonderful discussion you both had. This should bring a smile to your face. Also, think about some of the things your mother wanted you to accomplish. Are you doing those things? If you are, congratulations. If not, write them down on a piece of paper and start. As time progress please keep me updated. If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask Mentoring Girls Into Pearls. ~Much love and beautiful blessings
